SHAPE Colorado Announces 2023 Award Winners
SHAPE Colorado, the state affiliate of SHAPE America, announces the winners of our 2023 awards. The awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the field of health and physical education in Colorado.
Individual Awards
Emerging Leader of the Year Award: Samantha Anderson, University of Northern Colorado
Young Professional of the Year: Riley Hubbard, Timnath Elementary School
Graduate Student Research: Veronica Becerra, University of Northern Colorado
Administrator of the Year: Gary Zaharatos, Denver Public Schools

SHAPE Colorado Teacher of the Year:
Elementary School: Tracy Hartin, University Park Elementary
Middle School: Jacob Benson, Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School
High School: Holly Wells, Montbello High School
Adapted PE: Jennifer Dixon, Monarch High School
The award winners will be presented their awards at the annual SHAPE Colorado convention on October 8 – 10th.

In addition to the individual and organizational awards, SHAPE Colorado will also present several special awards at the 2023 convention. These awards included:

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion: Nhu Nguyen, Metropolitan State University of Denver
SHAPE Colorado is proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals and organizations to the field of health and physical education in Colorado. These award winners are an inspiration to us all, and we are grateful for their work to make Colorado a healthier place.
